Chemist's shops
How to recognise chemist's shops, opening times. The symbol of chemist's shops is a green cross. Out of the usual office hours there is always a chemist's shop for emergencies open (see notices in all chemist's shops or publications in newspapers).
Information concerning telephone
Area codes, acceptance of cards and emergency numbers
Since the adjustment of the telephone numbers in 1998 nearly all numbers in Ibiza begin with 971.... for ground network telephones. When calling to England you dial 00 44 and leave out the 0 of the area code. From England to Spain 00 34 and then for example for Ibiza 971...
When switching on your mobile phone after your arrival on the island usually you are automatically in the Spanish net for mobile communication so that you do not have to dial the Spanish area code. If you wish to call a Spanish phone you only need to dial 971 for example for the Baleares … and then the phone number you want to reach. It's the same wenn calling to a Spanish mobile phone. But when calling to England from the Spanish net for mobile communication you must dial the English area code, even when using your mobile phone.
There are public phone boxes for coins ( 5 ct. to 2 € coins) as well as phone boxes for cards (you can buy cards in tobacco shops and sometimes also in supermarkets).

Attention - theft
In midsummer (especially July and August) unfortunately thefts happen some times. But persons never get hurt. Usually it is money or credit cards the thiefs are after, sometimes jewellery as well. To prevent this I give you the following advice:
- never leave your bag and stuff unattended at the beach
- do not let valuables lying around in your house when you go out
- do not hang your bag over the back of your chair in a restaurant
- do not leave valuables in the rental car. They can be recognized as rental cars and are therefore often broken into
- do not leave rented convertibles with valuables unattended
- when sunbathing at your private pool lock all entrys you cannot see from the pool

Be careful when parking your car in Ibiza
I have seen many tourists coming out of a shop and looking for their car which just has been towed away. Most of the times they have parked in the wrong place! Especially in San Antonio there are blue and yellow pavement edges.
Please ONLY park at the blue pavement edges. NEVER at the yellow ones. (Only to load and unload, otherwise the car is in danger of being towed away). At the blue pavement edges please look out for the following signs:
You are only allowed to park right or left. In the example above you are allowed to park left 1-15 day of the month and right from day 16 to day 31. In the town of Ibiza you very often find parking machines where you get tickets which you then displace behind the front windscreen of your car.
Police
organization and responsibilities
Police in Spain ist differently organized than in other countries.
The Guardia Civil can be seen very often and recognized in dark green uniforms (the political police under Franco). Nowadays the Guardia Civil is, especially in the countryside, still active as police for general matters, otherwise more in fighting against terrorism. The Guardia Civil de trafico (light green uniforms) is the traffic police of the country. The Policia municipal (blue uniforms) first of all is responsible for general rules. The Policia nacional (brown uniforms) is similar to the criminal investigation department who is to be contacted in case of theft or similar crimes. But not many cases can be solved.
Travelling documents
duties and recommendations and rules
You have to carry the following documents with you when travelling to Ibiza: a valid identity card (a passport is only necessary for staying over 3 months) and the driving license (when driving a car).
It is recommended to ask for agreements for stays abroad at your health insurance department. If necessary bring a health document for overseas travel with you.
Traffic
Rules (speed / alcohol level) and recommendations
In the traffic there are some little especialities.
The speed limit on ordinary roads of Ibiza is 90 km/h, in towns 50 km/h. The limit of alcohol level is 0,5.
When overtaking a car you have to indicate throughout the whole procedure.
